What is Oops!
Oops is a monthly on-line magazine designed to discuss
issues of information security that direct involve staff and their
operations.
Even if you are not from the IT department I would expect
that you have heard of the incidents below
Such as:
“Welsh government
data 'missing'
Sixteen items of lost or stolen documents from the Welsh
Assembly Government have been recorded in the last three years, say
officials”. BBC Website 2nd Jan 2009
Or
“Tax website shut
down as memory stick with secret personal data of 12million is found in a pub
car park’ Daily Mail online
2nd November 2008
Or data handling errors like
“UK's
families put on fraud alert” BBC Website - 20th November 2007 When
HMRC lost 2 computer discs with thousands of personal records.
“Anger as children's details left in skip at ice rink”– The Scotsman. 8th
April 2008 – Where files containing personal details were left in a skip
after the rink closed.
These all have one thing in common; in the middle of the
problem someone did something that caused the data loss.
Oops focuses on stories and issues that are topical and relevant in
this field because improving the safety of business operations is our
specialty.
The articles are short and will take just a few minutes to
read.
Of course if you want to ask questions, make points or know
more you only have to ask…….
