Case Study 4 - Providing a stand-in IT Director to a Consumer Finance Company
Background
We are regularly asked to provide someone for a key position in IT eg to cover maternity leave, the sudden departure of a manager or because the client cannot find a suitable person in the market place.
One of our clients had a difficult dilemma. The imminent retiral of a well respected IT Manager was causing difficulties because there were two excellent candidates for the position but the business was having a real dilemma of which one to select and was deferring the decision. One of the concerns was that the other party would leave causing a difficult recruitment and continuity issue. The sudden illness of the IT Director pushed the issue into the spotlight and the matter needed to be addressed.
Approach
Greig Ross Associates placed an ex-IT Director into the business to work alongside the two people for a period of three months whilst running the department.
The Result
Not only did the business keep running successfully but the consultant selected the person for the position and coached them into the job. The other candidate was counselled and given a new opportunity within the business and there was a staffing reshuffle. The client addressed the succession professionally and found real opportunities for good quality employees.
