Case Study 3 – Conducting a full IT review for a mid-range Building Society
Background
Many businesses hold the view that IT budgets should rise with inflation each year with occasional spikes for capital projects. A client decided to challenge this view because of the concerns from business departments and we were engaged to carry out a complete review of IT.
Approach
A small team of Greig Ross Associates specialists were involved and our review covered technology, costs, personnel, processes, governance, user perspective and IT strategy. Although the assignment was for the analysis, research and report the client re-engaged Greig Ross Associates to implement a number of recommendations intended to address the issues identified.
The Result
There were many outcomes of this review but included:
- IT department was operating at circa 35% higher costs than its peers and needed to pair its costs
- It's development to support relationship costs were completely wrong resulting in a stifling of business development
- The business customer base had no time for IT and were doing their own IT.
